5 huge monsters found in MMOs

Weird choice of article, right? It’s mainly due to massive monsters in games simultaneously scaring and fascinating the hell out of our guest writerScott Constantine (especially when they’re underwater).

Besides, it’s always more satisfying to take down a huge boss than a small one. We present you with a selection of gigantic beasts you may encounter in several online multiplayer games.

5. Battering Rams
Final Fantasy XI

When we heard this name, we were expecting to see some sort of sentient battering ram, like a living version of the thing the Orcs use on Minas Tirith in Lord of the Rings.

We were wrong.

This monster really is just one giant sheep.

It still provides a decent battle and woe be tied any inexperienced adventurers who wander into its territory.

4. Crystal Titan
City of Heroes

City of Heroes continues to be a larger-than-life MMO, even after the advent of Champions Online. It sustains this reputation by putting players against the very biggest and best challenges in its genre, including this fight with the so-called Crystal Titan.

Crystal Titan doesn’t play a huge part in the lore and only provides something for gamers to bash their heads against at the end of a tough trial. The City of Heroes wiki sheds some more light on this mystical creation.

3. Clockworks
FlyFF

This mechanical giant is hidden away within Flyff and is only accessible to guilds which are willing to risk their lives to fight it.

It’s the first ‘Super Giant’ class of monster to be added to the game and is the only one most people get the opportunity to encounter.

Standing at a remarkable 62,000,000 HP, it takes everyone working at full capacity to bring down this boss and fry its circuits. For more information check out FlyFF’s Wiki.

2. Various Flying Giants
Aion

We don’t play Aion and there’s no bestiary on the game yet, but you can watch this Youtube video of some of the flying giants travelling around in the meantime.

Regardless, they’re very impressive and we’d be surprised if they’re unable to one-shot most players, if you can get close to them at all.

Here’s another video which films a similar creature resembling a certain aeon from FFX. More games need graceful-yet-intimidating creatures like these!

1. Oacha’noa
World of Warcraft: The Lich King

A massive missy from the depths of Azeroth, who isn’t even mentioned in the lore until you do the quests leading up to her on Northrend.

She’s one of the few ‘Kraken’-type mobs in the entire game and Scott has had an encounter with her kind before.

While Oacha’noa’s title of ‘Goddess of the Depths’ is disputed due to the lack of information about her, she certainly deserves some sort of award due to her size alone.

She’s as tall as the mountain-like island you summon her on. For comparison, see the picture below.

Although she may be huge and intimidating, but you don’t get to fight this sea monster. Instead, you have to submit to her as part of a quest from the strange walrus-people you work for. Visit WoW Wiki for more information.
