Gun holsters on thighs, knee-length boots, twin pistols and a typical British accent…
Lara Croft is back, but not as you know her. This is Alison Carroll, Eidos’ real-life model for the new Tomb Raider game, Tomb Raider Underworld.
And she certainly knows how to backflip like the virtual Lara Croft we all know (and love?)
23- year-old Alison Carroll, a receptionist from Croydon is following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Nell McAndrew as the new face of Lara Croft.

And she really does seem like the real deal doesn’t she?
Rather than having a modelling background, Alison has 12 years’ experience as one of Great Britain’s top display gymnasts, which includes a rigorous six-times-a-week gym schedule.
Eidos has already booked her onto SAS survival, combat and semi-automatic weapon firing courses in Eastern Europe, and a crash course in world archaeology, to help promote the new game.
Tomb Raider Underworld is released on 21 November, but I’m not holding my breath for it to be a great game. The turnaround for new Tomb Raider games is about a year or two, and that to me just smells like a quick money-making scheme.
That said, Alison Carroll is probably the closest thing to a real-life Lara Croft, and it seems that the new virtual in-game Lara has been modelled after her, with new facial features and body shape.
Proof that Lara Croft is still a sexy gaming icon then – and even if the series is getting stale, it looks like Lara is here to stay.
What do you think of the new Lara Croft?
