One game which could have easily been overlooked at the 2009 Eurogamer Expo was in fact the most original title there.
Leet Games Blog got all sleuth-like with Relentless Software’s new family detective sim. But how on earth does it work?
We love Relentless. They’re a cool little developer who brought us Buzz – Playstation’s cracking quiz ‘em up which still has us competing against our families’ wits with the buzzer-style controllers.
Now they’re releasing an upcoming piece of episodic content in the form of detective/quiz sim Blue Toad Murder Files.
You’re a detective who must solve a murder (or six) in a loveable, cartoony, family-friendly world which oozes charm and personality. It’s a very well-written game and is chock full of cut scenes, which you must analyse carefully in order to work out who the culprit is.
Gameplay is essentially a series of questions and puzzles which take place in-between cut scenes. It sounds drab, but Relentless pulls it off nicely and the game really comes alive with four people playing at once.

Answer the right question in the quickest time and you’ll get more points.
Blue Toad Murder Files pulled out our competitive streak fairly quickly at the 2009 Eurogamer Expo, and we can see families getting very heated with the story and puzzles in order to beat their opposition!
The genius part of the game is whether you want to shout your answers aloud, ask for help from other players or try and tackle it by yourself. It’s sure to be a good laugh for the family who wants a break from the Wii to test their brains and try a thinking game out.
It’s worth noting the game is aimed primarily for families, and gameplay as such does not involve running, killing, fast-paced action or stealth. But we think that makes a nice change from the Metal Gear’s and Uncharted 2′s of today, and admire Relentless’ bravery for trying something different.
Blue Toad Murder Files is available for download on the Playstation Network on December 17.
