FIFA 13 web app finally goes live; EA bans exploiters

FIFA 13 web app goes down

The FIFA 13 web app has finally gone live again. It was taken offline by EA on September 19th, after certain users took advantage of an exploit which got them free gold packs. They have now been permanently banned.

It was scheduled to go live on the evening of Tuesday, September 18th, but ended up going live late and being shut down the following evening, too.

The image above is what currently greeted viewers when they tried to sign into FIFA Ultimate Team on PC online using EA’s login page.

Yesterday an EA Sports FIFA account tweet read: “The #FUT13 Web App is currently offline as we’ve identified some new issues that are affecting user experience.

“To ensure we can fix these issues & provide a stable experience for all users, the Web App will remain offline for some time. Stay tuned.”

This was posted at around 8pm UK time on Wednesday, September 19th.

And today (September 20th), EA tweeted the following: “Yesterday, a very small number of users attempted to gain an unfair advantage on the FUT Web App. The app had to be taken offline to be stabilised and to ensure a level playing field for all FUT users.

“Permanent bans for FIFA 13 FUT have been served to all users who attempted to gain an unfair advantage. Thanks for your patience while we create the best experience for all fans of FUT.”

A source close to Leet told us that users were able to buy bronze player packs, discard the pack, and then erroneously receive a free 24-rare player gold pack. This was reportedly done by using an exploit through Mozilla Firefox. They then sold the players on the marketplace. Apparently, Rooney and Ronaldo cards were being sold for as cheap as 200 coins each. Potentially market-breaking and game-breaking stuff. So we have to say, fair play to EA for banning the cheats.

Yesterday, some users on Twitter created the #ResetTheWebApp hashtag out of frustration, which reportedly began trending in the UK. If it did, it’s dropped out of the top ten trending list now.
