Mega Man Music!

Mega Man is one of my favourite old school game franchises of all time – and there are some fabulous re-made songs from his classic ditties out there.

Here’s some of the better Mega Man music including work from the Protomen and Project X.

Mega Man is one of the most difficult games I have ever played, but that’s also what makes it one of my favourites. The ability to acquire new power from bosses, learn the levels and eventually tackle them with ease, the simple side-platformer/shooter gameplay and brilliant music score made it a great success.

This post is about the latter. Here are a bunch of awesome Mega Man music artists who you have to check out!

The Protomen

These guys turned the tables and injected a fresh new direction into the whole, stale,  ‘converting game music and turning it into rock covers’ idea.

They have written a complete, epic rock opera based around the story of Mega Man, Proto Man, and their creator – Dr Light. If you’re even a mild fan of rock or Mega Man, I cannot recommend them enough. Fantastic band.

This guy isn’t a specific Mega Man music maker, but is unique nonetheless. He raps about the gameplay of Mega Man 2 and throws in some nice little touches of humour in there.

Skip to 40 seconds in to get to the proper start of the song. Skip to 2mins 14 to get to woodman and flashman – two of my faves! But the whole song is best watched from start to finish. Note: Swearing

The best rock/dance covers you’ll find of original Mega Man theme music – without vocal. Plus it’s entirely free!

There are more bands and artists who have produced some amazing Mega Man tracks and music from the original games, including the NESkimos and the Minibosses. I will write about these and add them to the article when I get some more free time.
