Yes, Shenmue 3. If only just to shut the constantly whining fans up.
Nonetheless, this is probably the most requested sequel this side of Duke Nukem Forever, but seeing how the first two died on their arse, this is probably the least likely to be made.
It’s a shame it won’t, as current gen consoles could really do the concept justice. It needs a totally new game engine, made from the ground up, focusing on a fun escape from the tedium of real life – not designed to recreate it.
So this time Sega, we’d like no needless time restrictions where you have to be home by bedtime, no mandatory day job, no looking that bloody cat and definitely NO QUICK TIME EVENTS (I have to disagree – Ed)!
Taking the action away from Asia to San Francisco, Ryo Hazuki will have far greater freedom in the city to finally get revenge for his dead dad, with the ability to enter all shops and most houses. And combat will take a page from the game that refined fighting in the original Shenmue – Yakauza.
So in between looking for more sailors, Ryo can knock seven bells out of multiple enemies with anything you can get your hands on: a bottle, ladder, baseball bat, bicycle or even one of the many 80′s-era Sega arcade cabinets to ram your opponent’s head against (such as Altered Beast)!
And as an added bonus, voice acting will be at least half decent.

Games are a great escape from our day to day lives. I’m a space marine waging a never ending war against an unstoppable alien horde. That’s why I loved Shenmue so much. Those evenings attending to mundane daily chores and working as a fork lift driver kept me sane during the third year of The Rift War.
i have read about 25 sites about them saying that sega wants to make it but wants someone to pay for it i say as the fans we know we want it why dont we each send a little in maybe that will tell them that we are sick and tired of waiting for it and for them to just do it
because they’re really ain’t enough fans to warrent it. It cost a fortune to make and bombed on two different consoles. A new current gen shenmue would have a MGS4 sized budget. And on the whole I don’t think there’s enough people willing to stump up a few hundred (or thousand) quid so they can rescue cats in high def!
At the same time Liam, how many Yakuza fans are there in the UK? Shenmue was a huge success in Japan, and sales will be greater than Yakuza 3 in the UK, even though they’re similar titles in terms of core gameplay.
I’ve played the Yakuza 3 demo and really don’t think it’s up to scratch. Give us Shenmue 3 Sega, stuff Yakuza!
